Organization profile
The American Indian Governance and Policy Institute (AIGPI) amplifies Tribal voices and protects cultural identities through evidence-based, community-guided research. Based at the University of Montana, AIGPI operates as a community-centered organization dedicated to supporting Indigenous leaders and communities across Montana. We address the socio-economic and health challenges facing Tribal nations—many rooted in colonization and Federal Indian policy—by producing credible, accessible research and policy analysis. Our work fills a critical gap in federal policy research for Tribal governments and equips leaders with tools to strengthen sovereignty, governance, and economic development. AIGPI collaborates closely with UM’s Margery Brown Indian Law Clinic, Native American Studies Department, and Master of Public Administration program. All research is freely available through our public database, ensuring transparency and broad community access.
