The Department of Anthropology at the University of Montana is committed to exploring the complexity of the human experience through teaching, research, and service. With a curriculum grounded in both cultural and biological perspectives, the department prepares students to understand the richness of human diversity and the evolutionary forces that have shaped it. Students can pursue a minor, B.A., M.A., or Ph.D. in anthropology, with undergraduate options in Archaeology, Cultural and Ethnic Diversity, Forensic and Biological Anthropology, Linguistics, or a custom-designed path. Through cross-cultural study and applied learning, graduates are equipped to bring anthropological insights into a wide range of careers. The department also houses the Linguistics Program, which advances parallel missions to deepen understanding of language, culture, and human experience in a globalized world.
