The Department of Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Sciences (BMED), housed within the Skaggs School of Pharmacy at the University of Montana, is a hub for cutting-edge research and interdisciplinary education in the basic health sciences. With faculty expertise spanning molecular pharmacology, toxicology, neuroscience, and medicinal chemistry, BMED plays a critical role in preparing future scientists and healthcare professionals—particularly in a state without a medical school. Consistently ranked among the top pharmacy schools in the nation for NIH research funding, the department is deeply committed to student-centered learning and the teacher-scholar model. BMED offers individualized training from undergraduate through Ph.D. levels, with advanced graduate study opportunities in Biomedical Sciences, Neuroscience, Toxicology, and Medicinal Chemistry. Through collaborative research centers and robust outreach programs, BMED supports innovation and discovery that serve both Montana and the broader scientific community.
