The Department of Economics at the University of Montana offers a dynamic and rigorous education grounded in quantitative analysis, research, and writing—skills that open doors to diverse career paths and graduate study. Whether pursuing roles in business, government, nonprofits, or continuing on to advanced degrees in law, public policy, or economics, our graduates are well-prepared and in demand. Faculty in the department are deeply engaged in research on issues that matter—locally and globally—including environmental and natural resource economics, development and health economics, public finance, international trade, and well-being. Set in the vibrant community of Missoula, our department combines academic excellence with real-world relevance, encouraging students to think critically and make meaningful contributions to the world around them.
