Organization profile

The Department of History at the University of Montana offers a dynamic learning environment where students explore the forces of change that have shaped societies across American, European, and global contexts. Through engaging coursework and hands-on opportunities such as internships and our Public History Program, students learn to connect the past to the present and communicate historical insights to a broader public. Our faculty—award-winning teachers and active researchers—guide students in developing critical thinking, deep research skills, and persuasive communication. Whether pursuing an undergraduate degree or advanced graduate study, students gain both a rich understanding of the human experience and the tools to become thoughtful professionals, educators, and engaged global citizens.
