The Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Montana is committed to excellence in teaching, research, and service across mathematics, statistics, and mathematics education. Our faculty engage students at all levels, from foundational coursework to advanced theory, while also conducting research that advances the mathematical sciences. The flexible structure of our undergraduate major allows students to tailor their studies to match their interests and goals, with guidance from faculty mentors and professional advisors. Through a focus on abstract reasoning, problem-solving, and clear communication, we prepare students to become thoughtful leaders and engaged citizens in a data-driven world.
