Organization profile
Located on the University of Montana campus in Missoula, the Montana Center for Work Physiology and Exercise Metabolism (WPEM) opened in 2008 as a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to the study of human performance under extreme physical and environmental conditions. Funded in part by a U.S. Air Force grant, the multi-million dollar center includes a fully equipped biochemistry lab and a climate-controlled environmental chamber where temperature and humidity can be precisely manipulated. What sets WPEM apart is its unique integration of rugged field research with carefully controlled laboratory studies, enabling researchers to generate real-world insights into the physiology of work, performance, and recovery.
