Philosophy explores some of the deepest questions humans ask: What is the nature of reality? How do we know what we know? What should we do? At the University of Montana, our Philosophy Department engages both historical traditions and pressing contemporary issues—from law and medicine to the environment, race, and technology. Students sharpen their reasoning and ethical insight through rigorous inquiry and reflection. We offer a range of undergraduate and graduate degrees, including specialized tracks in environmental philosophy and philosophy and law, as well as certificate and minor options. Committed to fostering inclusive and equitable learning environments, we value the diverse perspectives students bring and aim to cultivate dialogue that is respectful, critical, and transformative.
