Psychology is the scientific study of human behavior—how we think, feel, and act—and it applies to nearly every aspect of daily life. At the University of Montana, students in the Department of Psychology explore questions that range from the deeply personal to the broadly societal: What causes depression and how can it be treated? How do we form memories? What drives human cruelty or compassion? Our programs provide a strong foundation in psychological science, offering opportunities to apply knowledge through research, community engagement, and hands-on learning. With courses spanning topics like neuropsychology, health psychology, and family dynamics, students gain insight into human behavior and the tools to improve individual and collective well-being. Whether pursuing a career in mental health, education, research, or the private sector, our graduates are equipped to make a meaningful impact in the world.
