The Sociology and Criminology program at the University of Montana explores the forces that shape social life, justice, and human behavior. Students examine how inequality, crime, and systems of power influence communities—locally, nationally, and globally. Our faculty are active researchers whose work addresses urgent social issues, from racial disparities in policing to the roots of interpersonal violence and the dynamics of inequality in the American West. With flexible pathways in General Sociology, Inequality and Social Justice, and Criminology, our undergraduate and graduate programs equip students with the tools to understand and address complex social problems.
