Absolute cross section for Si2+(3s3p 3Po → 3s3p 1Po) electron-impact excitation

Abstract

The absolute cross-section for electron-impact excitation of Si2+ was determined for energies in the range 2.6-8.9 eV. The fraction of metastable Si2+ in the beam was determined to be 0.256±0.035. The resonance structure and absolute scale of excitation were measured and found to be in good agreement with 12-state close-coupling R-matrix calculations.
