Abstract

Concerns regarding the integrity of U.S. elections draw attention to how people perceive the administrative mechanisms vital to democratic governance. This study explores voter perceptions of the tools necessary for implementing elections. Results from a state-wide telephone survey were used to create a voter satisfaction index. Findings highlight demographic effects, including that political liberals and self-identified Democrats express higher satisfaction with the electoral process than political conservatives and Republicans. Furthermore, findings suggest voter satisfaction is significantly influenced by the modality used to cast their ballots, offering election administrators and policymakers important insights for future elections.
