Abstract

Coxiella burnetii is an intracellular bacterial pathogen that causes Q fever, with symptoms ranging from self-limited febrile illness, pneumonia, hepatitis, meningitis, encephalitis, pericarditis, myocarditis, endocarditis, to osteomyelitis. This chapter provides an update on C. burnetii classification, epidemiology, identification, genetics, immunity, treatment and prevention.
