Abstract

Social emotional learning (SEL) has been identified as critical to meet students' needs. This study examined the potential of a small group discussion approach, Collaborative Reasoning (CR), on supporting students' SEL. Transcripts of debriefings after CR discussions and students' post-study interviews were analyzed for indicators of interpersonal competencies. Findings suggested students benefited in social awareness and relationship building skills after taking part in a series of CR discussions.
