Evolutionary/Neo-Darwinian Archaeology

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingEntry for encyclopedia/dictionarypeer-review

Abstract

Evolutionary/neo-Darwinian archaeology draws theoretical concepts from evolutionary anthropology, biology, and ecology in order to offer insights into cultural transmission processes, long term cultural evolution, and socio-ecological adaptations. Contemporary research integrates theoretical modeling with empirical studies of the archaeological record, emphasizing topics including technological evolution, subsistence variation, demographic history, and social change. Evolutionary models are increasingly valuable for enhancing our understanding of culture and environment relationships.
