Abstract
Identification involves the symbolic linkage of an individual to another person, group, or organization. Identifications factor into the development of individual identities, as defining a unique self is often accomplished through identification with a unique set of affiliations. In organizational communication, the study of organizational identification is particularly relevant as people often develop close associations with the organizations they work for, volunteer at, or participate in. When individuals highly identify with an organization, they see themselves as one with the organization and make decisions that support the best interests of the organization.
