Abstract

This article explores the role of monitoring and evaluation (M&E) for effective management of climate change mitigation and adaptation initiatives, focusing on Global Environment Facility -funded projects in Mali, Nepal, and Uzbekistan. The article underscores M&E’s critical role in navigating complexity, ensuring accountability, and promoting continuous learning in climate initiatives. The lessons from the case studies highlight challenges and successful approaches and practices that can inform future design, implementation, and M&E of interventions. The article calls for integrated, theory-based evaluation approaches attentive to environmental sustainability and socio-political contexts to enhance the impact and sustainability of climate interventions.
