REJUVENATING NATIVE LANGUAGES AND ACCELERATED SECOND LANGUAGE ACQUISITION

Chapter 18, “Language Rejuvenation and Accelerated Second Language Acquisition, " tells of Neyooxet Greymorning’s experiences and efforts to rejuvenate Indigenous languages with Indigenous-language teachers from its beginnings in 1993. The chapter reveals how over the course of 20 years Neyooxet has worked with over 2, 000 language teachers in Australia, Canada, and the United States. The chapter also discusses aspects of second-language acquisition through the published works of several known linguists. These works are then used to help understand the underlying philosophy of ASLA and its structural aspects that has brought about the success Accelerated Second Language Acquisition (ASLA) has had in rapidly moving new language learners to levels of language competency and speaking proficiency.
