Abstract

Evaluating functional mobility and facilitating appropriate, efficient methods of mobility as needed for activities of daily living are challenging tasks for therapists working with a pediatric population. Objective measures of the energy cost of mobility may enhance clinical decision making. This review of several published studies regarding the physiological cost of various forms of mobility in children with and without disabilities provides a summary of the results and insight into the clinical applications.
